Till Lindemann will soon be releasing a new single, as he reported on Instagram – but what’s really interesting is the B-side: a cover version of the evergreen “I’m set on love from head to toe”, the song by Friedrich Hollaender, made famous by Marlene Dietrich’s interpretation in “The Blue Angel” from 1930.
Lola: Seductress without guilt
The text unfolds the image of the character Lola from her own perspective: a woman who magnetically attracts men and has a destructive effect. She is circled around, desired, consumed, while those who approach her perish. At the same time, she portrays herself as innocent, almost childlike – as someone who bears no responsibility for any of this and simply cannot help but love. Apparently the Rammstein singer identifies with this attitude.
Will Lindemann take over the original text?
The title alone does not contain a rolling “R”, which should have disappointed Lindemann. It remains to be seen whether he will retain the original text. It says: “Men buzz around me like moths around a flame. And when they burn, I can’t help it. I’m prepared for love from head to toe, I can only love. And nothing else.” Whether it will turn “men” into “women” is still unclear.
Provocation with announcement
A performance of the song by the Rammstein singer would definitely be provocative. He might not even deny that some women buzz around him “like moths”. In addition, there are allegations against him of abusive behavior towards women (the Berlin public prosecutor’s office has stopped the investigation against him). Nobody can deny that he is prepared for at least physical “love” “from head to toe”.
Either way: Till Lindemann’s new single will be released at the end of May, with the Dietrich cover as the B-side.
