Lidl has removed green-edged vegetable shelves from its stores. In the future, plant-based products will be found in stores among other products.

Last fall, Lidl tested the removal of veggie shelves in six of its stores. Now Lidl has decided to give up veggie shelves completely, and the plant-based products have been moved among other products.

– For customers who actively use veggie products, grabbing products from the veggie shelf is easy, but many others skip the shelf out of old habit and thus do not become familiar with plant-based products. Plant-based products do not belong to a special diet, but to everyone, and when they are found next to familiar products, they are easier to grab, says the range’s responsibility manager Laura Kwissberg in the bulletin.

In the future, for example, vegetable protein products can be found in the same place as meat proteins.

– We want the familiar products from veggie shelves to be easily found in the future, despite the new shelf locations. Therefore, for the time being, we are adding a green-edged price tag to the plant-based products that have changed shelf space, which makes them easy to spot, advises Kvissberg.

The green price signs will be introduced in January.

Interest in plant-based products is growing. According to a survey commissioned by Lidl, 29 percent of respondents plan to add vegetable proteins to their diet.

Lidl’s goal is to double the share of vegetable proteins in sales from 10 percent to 20 percent by 2030.
