Herr Seele: “My grandfather was beheaded”

Artist Herr Seele also testified about his grandfather Theofiel Pannecoucke from Lichtervelde, who was in the resistance and was executed in Germany in 1944. “My grandfather was in the resistance, in the secret army of Lichtervelde and was arrested by the Gestapo in Torhout in 1942. My mother was the last key witness who was there.”

“My grandfather was handcuffed to a chair, my mother gave him food and drink. Those prisoners then went on a tour through Germany. They rode like prisoners on a kind of ghost train through Germany. No one knew who was on it, where they were going.”

“There was no contact with Torhout and Lichtervelde. And so they went from Bochum to Essen, Esterwegen, to Wolfenbütel. And in Wolfenbütel, those fourteen resistance members were all beheaded in 1944.”
