Syria has arrested a general from the time of ousted President Bashar al-Assad. According to the Interior Ministry, Khardal Ahmed Dayoub was involved in the chemical attack on Eastern Ghouta, a Damascus suburb, in 2013.
That attack killed more than 1,400 men, women and children, according to U.S. intelligence agencies and human rights groups. The Assad regime denied responsibility, but later agreed to the transfer of its chemical arsenal under pressure from Russia and the United States.
