Liam Gallagher promises an album full of love songs

Liam Gallagher has hinted that he could one day release a record full of love songs: Following the release of his third solo studio album C’MON YOU KNOW on May 27th, he has some quiet songs left that he has for a full-length album dedicated to Cupid could use. “I think there’s another half record that’s a little more relaxed,” the 49-year-old told a column for the British tabloid Daily Star.

C’MON YOU KNOW appears in a Rock’n’Roll guise

His album, which will be released next month, will also contain some ballads, although it is basically a rock’n’roll record. In the wake of the pandemic, Gallagher initially assumed that many musicians would return with rock songs: “During the pandemic, everyone had a moment when they thought about how beautiful the world is and what we did to it and if this is the end . Everyone was going through these crazy things, and I thought maybe if we get a chance to make an album, maybe everyone will come back with these rockin’ records and say how much they hate the government and all that nonsense.”

“Something more relaxed, like Simon and Garfunkel”

At first, the Brit wanted to display the opposite understanding of art: “And so I thought that maybe we’d approach it from a different angle, maybe we’ll do an album full of love songs, something more relaxed, like Simon and Garfunkel.” Eventually I did he found a sort of compromise for C’MON YOU KNOW: “There were a few songs along those lines, but then it went back to the crazy stuff, the rock ‘n’ roll stuff. Then it went back to the love songs, a little quieter stuff, and finally we ended up with C’MON YOU KNOW,” says Gallagher.

The idea of the love record has not died

In an interview with the NME he similarly said: “I was just like, ‘Fuck that crap – I don’t ever want to hear about (the pandemic) again,’ you know what I mean? Maybe we’ll come out and do a love album – really nice; not a rock ‘n’ roll record.” Although his forthcoming long-player didn’t end up being that love record after all, he would like to return to that idea one day and create a more “trippy” album – but there’s still plenty of time for that.

Two albums in one day

Alongside his third solo studio album C’MON YOU KNOW, Liam Gallagher will be releasing another record on May 27th – the live album DOWN BY THE RIVER THAMES. It features a show by the musician that took place in December 2020: when large-scale concerts were still banned due to COVID measures, the former Oasis frontman played a special set on a barge going down London’s Thames.
