At the start of the biopic “A Complete Unknown” with Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan, Levi’s is making it possible to go to the cinema wearing Dylan clothes.
This is probably just a twist of fate: With the biopic “A Complete Unknown,” Bob Dylan could once again win over a completely new generation of listeners. Elton John and Queen also achieved this with their biographical films.
To help young people like Timothée Chalamet slip into the songwriter’s shoes, Levi’s is releasing a clothing collection inspired by the film to coincide with the launch of “A Complete Unknown.”
The collection is called “Levi’s Vintage Clothing x A Complete Unknown” and includes a jacket and jeans worn by Dylan’s actor Chalamet in the biopic, which are of course based on the real clothes the musician wore in his early years.

But it won’t be cheap: the jacket (“Dig Yourself Brown”) is available for $1,200 Levi’s website offered. It is available in a yellow brown tone and is made of 100 percent leather. In true style, the garment also comes with a musical score for “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall”. There are also a few notes on “A Complete Unknown”.
The pants are available for a mere $495. It comes with a limited edition belt, sheet music for “Girl from the North Country,” a “Subterranean Homesick Blues” cue card, and a typed note in the watch case. It reads: “I’ll let you be in my dreams, if I can be in yours,” from “Talkin’ World War III Blues.”
To ensure maximum authenticity, the jeans even contain an insert on each leg, which in real life was sewn into the singer’s trousers by Dylan’s girlfriend at the time, Suze Rotolo, so that he could wear the trousers with boots.
“When researching costumes for the film, I kept noticing that Bob Dylan wore Levi’s throughout his career, both on and off stage,” Arianne Phillips, the costume designer for “A Complete Unknown,” said in a statement Statement on the Levi’s website. “So I worked with Paul O’Neill at Levi’s to help me source authentic Levi’s denim and make the bootcut 501 jeans, as well as replicating the Super Slim Levi’s jeans that Dylan wore in 1965 .”
