Christmas, the festival of love. Star musicians who send Christmas greetings to their fans via email postcards also know this. For Robert Smith, the contemplative mood on Sunday evening (December 22, 2024) was initially ruined.

“THIS IS RUBBISH – I DID NOT APPROVE IT – THE CURE LIVE 2024 WAS A SEXTET – X,” he posted Cure boss on X, as usual completely in capitals. “That’s rubbish – I didn’t approve of that – The Cure live 2024 were a sextet – X”.

Robert Smith on X:

THIS IS RUBBISH – I DID NOT APPROVE IT – THE CURE LIVE 2024 WAS A SEXTET – X

The “garbage” collage shows a kind of fanboy postcard, “franked” with a “Songs of a Lost World” stamp and a “tongue-in-cheek” self-addressed message about how great The Cure are.

That’s not what makes Robert Smith so upset. He is bothered by the photo of his band performing “Friday I’m in Love” at London’s Troxy (November 1st). What bothers him is that the photo only shows a section – four of six band members. In addition to him, bassist Simon Gallup, drummer Jason Copeland and guitarist Reeves Gabrels. The two keyboard players on the left and right were cut off by the Cure PR team. Perry Bamonte and Roger O’Donnell, whose comeback we were particularly happy about, as he was battling cancer.

In two other later posts, Smith credits the show’s photographer as well as the original design that was intended to go out to fans.

Let’s see if the postcard email goes out again before Christmas Eve, with corrections. Regardless, The Cure may have celebrated one of the most successful years of their career as an album band in 2024.

The album “Songs of a Lost World” is almost universally celebrated, as is the club show at Troxy. Robert Smith has long since announced a follow-up album for 2025. Now everyone is waiting eagerly to see when the SEXTETT will announce a world tour. With Perry Bamonte and Roger O’ Donnell on stage left and right.
