Leverkusen’s Palacios an issue in summer?

For decades, FC Bayern has been said to be particularly fond of poaching from its direct competition when looking for players in order to weaken them. In keeping with this, a top player from current Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen has now been brought into discussion with the record champions.

On matchday 4, Exequiel Palacios made a noticeable impression on FC Bayern. In the last minute of stoppage time, the Argentine converted a penalty for Leverkusen to make the final score 2-2, which left the Allianz Arena silent.

Since this Friday in September 2023 at the latest, people in Munich have known what quality the central midfielder brings. Will he even become a transfer topic after the season?

“Bild” head of football Christian Falk hinted at such a scenario in the latest edition of the “Bayern Insider” podcast. “He fits in really well,” emphasized the journalist, who has close ties to the German industry leader.

Falk is convinced that FC Bayern will soon make an advance on Palacios. The 25-year-old is under contract in Leverkusen until 2028, and the current leader’s transfer fee would probably be correspondingly high.

Regardless of this, the reigning world champion would fit into coach Thomas Tuchel’s star ensemble, said Falk: “He would be a great thing for Bayern’s midfield.”

FC Bayern is threatened with well-known competition for Palacios

Palacios has been playing for the Werkself for four years, but his breakthrough only came last season. The strong South American has now become an integral part of successful coach Xabi Alonso’s starting eleven.

So far in 2023/2024, Palacios has appeared in 20 competitive games for Bayer, collecting four goals and two assists. At the end of September, the right-footer extended his contract early in Leverkusen, but offers from top clubs can still be expected in the summer.

It’s entirely conceivable that FC Bayern would also throw its hat into the ring.
