The second quarter-finals in the DFB Cup had to be interrupted after only two minutes. The reason for this was pyrotechnics.
As soon as the Rhenish duel between Bayer Leverkusen and the 1st FC Cologne started, it was interrupted again for almost ten minutes. Shortly after the quarterfinal kick-off in the DFB Cup on Wednesday evening, followers of the Cologne-based quantities of pyrotechnics ignited.
The resulting smoke massively restricted the view in the BayArena. Referee Frank Willenborg therefore interrupted the encounter after less than two minutes.
The players of the two teams kept warm on the lawn, the smoke fell slowly. It was only in the twelfth minute that Willenborg released the game again.
