Loan canceled: Grill moves to league competitor

Eintracht Braunschweig and Lennart Grill are going their separate ways after only six months. The goalkeeper is drawn to a league competitor.
That’s it: Lennart Grill’s loan to Eintracht Braunschweig, originally planned until the end of the season, ends prematurely. The BTSV had agreed on this with Grill’s parent club Union Berlin, the club announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Grill had played between the posts for Eintracht in a total of ten competitive games since his arrival last summer, but was never without controversy due to his sometimes poor performances. A sticking point for him was the red card in the second division game against Hertha BSC in October 2024, when he initiated the 3-1 defeat with a serious mistake.
As a result, he was replaced by Marko Johansson, who was signed by Hamburger SV, and was no longer able to regain his number one status. At the start of the second half of the season against FC Schalke 04 (0-0) last Saturday, Grill was no longer in the squad.
What will happen next for him is already clear. Because: The 25-year-old will not be returning to Berlin for the time being, but is instead joining Eintracht’s second division rival Greuther Fürth. The “Clover Leaves” also reported on this on Wednesday. Grill signed in Fürth on loan until the end of the season and is expected to replace the injured reserve goalkeeper Nils Körber.
Grill is convinced of the decision. “Everything happened very quickly, but the discussions with those responsible here were very open and gave me the feeling that I wanted to do this,” said the goalkeeper. “I think that the change in air is good for me and I can also develop further in this role in the goalkeeping team here at Kleeblatt.”
