Takaaki Nakagami’s MotoGP career will continue in the upcoming season. Immediately before the Aragon Grand Prix, LCR-Honda confirmed the contract extension with the Japanese, who has been racing in the premier class since 2018, but has not yet been able to claim a podium in his MotoGP career. The highlight so far is the pole position at the race in Aragon two years ago.
Nakagami has competed in 80 races in his MotoGP career – all for the LCR Honda team. He is currently in 16th position in the drivers’ standings. “I’m very happy to continue racing in MotoGP with LCR-Honda in 2023,” notes Nakagami.
“I would like to thank Idemitsu and Honda for their continued support. I’m looking forward to next season and will do everything to achieve the best results with the team. In the meantime, I will keep working hard for the rest of the season, to improve my performance,” explains the Japanese.
LCR Team Principal Lucio Cecchinello is happy to be completing a sixth season with Nakagami. “Since 2020, Taka has proven that he is a very fast rider who can fight for podiums and this year he has constantly fought to finish as the best Honda rider,” said the LCR manager.
“I have faith in his potential and with his six years of experience with the Honda RCV213 he will definitely help the LCR Honda team and HRC to improve our package and close the gap to the competition,” said Lucio Cecchinello.
