Lazio Rome showed strong nerves in the long-distance duel with Inter Milan and secured the runner-up spot in Italy.
The Romans won 2-0 (0-0) at FC Empoli and ended the season second behind champions SSC Naples. Inter, who finished third, had previously had a successful dress rehearsal for the Champions League final next Saturday (9 p.m. / DAZN and ZDF) against Manchester City in a 1-0 (1-0) win at FC Turin.
Alessio Romagnoli (48th) and Luis Alberto (90th + 2) scored for Rome. The Croatian Marcelo Brozovic (37th) was successful for Inter.
The highlight of this season for Inter is the final in the premier class in Istanbul. Milan is an outsider against the star ensemble from Manchester with goal machine Erling Haaland – the Italians still dream of their first triumph in the Champions League since 2010.
