Laura Siegemund puts everything on her individual in Wimbledon-and canceled her double start at short notice. Together with the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, she did not compete for the round of 16 against Veronika Kudermetowa (Russia) and Elise Mertens (Belgium) on Monday afternoon. This was announced by the tournament organizers.
The decision is not surprising: Before the tournament started, Siegemund had already deleted their participation in the mixed competition due to the high load.
On Tuesday, the 37-year-old is now waiting for the largest individual challenge to date: at 2:30 p.m. CEST (1.30 p.m. local time), she meets Aryna Sabalenka, the number one in the world on the Center Court. With a victory against the Belarusin, victory could achieve the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career.
