In the duel with Madison Keys, Laura was actually an outsider. But the German managed the surprise.
Laura Siegemund has achieved the next big surprise in Wimbledon and reached the round of 16 at the classic lawn for the first time in her career. The 37-year-old double specialist defeated the Australian Open winner Madison Keys from the USA in the third round with a tactical masterpiece with 6: 3, 6: 3. Siegemund annoyed the favorite 30-year-old with her variable game and numerous stop balls.
In the round of the top 16, she can now calculate good chances against Solana Sierra. The Argentinian had actually already failed in qualification, but moved into the main field as a Lucky Loserin. Due to the success, Siegemund, as the last remaining German tennis player, also secured £ 240,000 (278,000 euros). You can find the whole game to read in the ticker here.
