At the CES in Las Vegas, Sony announced news about its upcoming new gaming device PlayStation VR2. Among other things, it was revealed when the headset will be presented.
It’s been a long time since the new PlayStation VR2 is coming. The device can even be found on the website preorder. When exactly Sony will officially present the headset was not clear for a long time. But at the CES, the Japanese company unexpectedly revealed an appointment.
PlayStation VR2 is coming in February
According to Sony boss Kenichiro Yoshida, the PlayStation VR2 will be presented on February 22nd. A day later it should then also be available for purchase. The price will be just under 600 euros. In return, buyers should then get an even better gaming experience. Compared to the predecessor, which is now six and a half years old, Sony has, for example, increased the resolution to 4K, increased the field of view to 110 degrees and also introduced special controllers with which virtual objects in the game can be gripped even better.
With the PlayStation VR, players can immerse themselves directly in the gaming world. The headset and the controllers give haptic feedback according to the events in the game. 3D audio should also ensure the right sound experience.
However, many gamers had hoped for a wireless headset. But Sony is not that far with the PlayStation VR2. The headset is still connected to the console with a cable. In addition, it is only compatible with the PlayStation 5, which is unfortunately still not available everywhere in Germany and other countries. That could definitely affect the sales figures at the start.
Sony headset with strong competition
Due to the lack of backward compatibility, there are also fewer interfaces to the old system and to games. After all, some gaming studios have already announced that they will port their titles originally released for the PlayStation VR to the new generation via an update.
With the Meta Quest 2, however, the PlayStation VR2 headset has a serious competitor. The headset from the Facebook group is currently the most successful that is available on the market. So Sony will have a hard time keeping up with the competitor. In addition, the Quest 2 is currently available for around 450 euros. It therefore depends a lot on the games available for the PlayStation VR2 at launch that will best entice gamers
