The north duel in the Bundesliga between VfL Wolfsburg and Holstein Kiel did not find a winner on Friday evening. After two completely different halves of the game, both teams separated 2: 2 (0: 1) – a result that none of the teams really helps.

The last word in an intense but not always high -class game had Kiel’s substitute midfielder Steven Skrzybski ten minutes before the end. Previously, the Wolfsburg Patrick Wimmer (50th) and Jonas Wind (53rd) had countered the KSV lead through winter newcomer David ZEC (13th) with a double strike shortly after the beginning of the second half.

The tie does not help either of the two teams – Wolfsburg is not in the fight for a European Cup place, Kiel not in the table cellar. Nevertheless, the “storks” can probably live better with the point. Timo Becker, captain of the climber, at least was happy about the late point win after the game: “This is a great result. We defended like the lions at the back. We keep going full throttle and rewarded ourselves with one point today.”

Wolfsburg’s Wimmer: “Was significantly more in”

On the other hand, frustration with the Lower Saxony. This also and above all because the VfL was heavily installed in the second round after a weak first half, but had operated massive users. The strong Wimmer, who spoke of a “huge disappointment”: “There was definitely more in there today. We missed the lid on it today.”

Amoura is blocked, ZEC meets

The game did not take any start: Both teams acted with high intensity and high speed – initially with advantages for the hosts who almost took the lead in the sixth minute. The shot of VfL wing striker Mohamed Amoura from the crowd was just blocked by Kiel’s Dominik Javorcek.

But the guests were also good in the game – and effective: ZEC headed a JOFORCEK corner from the left side of eleven meters into the left angle. Two Wolfsburgers did not manage to prevent the Slovenia from the header. “Wolves” goalkeeper Kamil Grabara had no chance (13th).

“Wolves” with a lot of possession and little ideas

After the pace and eventful early quarter of an hour, the encounter is increasingly flattening. The Lower Saxony had a lot of you: possession of the ball, around 70 percent. But they had far too little of something else: ideas on how to draw apart the KSV defensive. A large number of half -field flanks was the “most creative”, which the team of coach Ralph Hasenhüttl offered to his supporters. They increasingly acknowledged these efforts with murmur and moaning as soon as a ball sailed through the Kiel penalty area again without buyers.

Only a long -range shot caused a little danger before the break. The bang of central defender Konstantinos Koulierakis from around 25 meters stroked one meter past the KSV goal (37th). The Schleswig-Holsteiners, who delivered the rooms with many sprints, had more to fear in the first round of the toothless “wolves”.

VfL double strike after the restart

That changed in the second round, because VfL coach Hasenhüttl had seen enough and changed twice to the restart: Yannick Gerhardt and Kilian Fischer had to give way for Wimmer and Andreas Skov Olsen. And that paid off. While WinterTransfer Skov Olsen narrowly failed in the 49th minute, Wimmer hit only a little later: Wind sent the Austrian steeply at the end of a great combination and he stayed cool in front of Timon Weiner and equalized (50th).

Just three minutes later, the Lower Saxony had turned the game – and again it was Wimmer and wind, this time with exchanged roles. The Danish striker headed a corner of the Austrian into the left lower corner. Javorcek and Weiner looked a bit unhappy on the Kiel goal line.

Wimmer twice in the aluminum pitch, Skrzybski meets late

The Wolfsburger vertebra continued – and the “storks” now almost under. The climber was simply overwhelmed in the first 30 minutes of the second half and twice in luck. Wimmer failed only with a long -range shot on the latte (55th), then after taking a great take -back from a short distance on the left post (63.). As a result, the hosts took some speed out, but remained dangerous: Both wind and coulierakis left other good opportunities on the third goal (73. and 74.).

And the VfL user user took revenge a little later, because the KSV did nothing to equalize from the proverbial one. Substitute Benedikt Pichler put from the right side on Skrzybski, who shot dry into the short corner from around six meters (80th). Huge jubilee in the Kiel fan block – long faces at the Wolfsburgers after a long dominant second half.

In the coming week, both north clubs will have difficult tasks in front of their chest: Kiel will travel to FC Bayern Munich (3:30 p.m.) on Saturday, the then day to Eintracht Frankfurt (3:30 p.m., both games each in the NDR Livecenter).
