At least 32,000 people submitted a first asylum request in the Netherlands in 2024. That is about 16 percent less than in 2023, according to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The figures from Statistics Netherlands are based on the asylum figures of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND).
While the number of first asylum requests decreased, the number of namesmen rose from more than 10,000 to just under 12,000, an increase of 17 percent. Narei -goers are family members of asylum seekers who have received a residence permit in the Netherlands. If the application meets a number of conditions, family members will also receive a residence permit upon arrival in the Netherlands.
With both the first asylum requests and the nastyizers, Syria is more than the most represented country of origin. It is striking that almost three -quarters (73 percent) come from the nicizers from Syria, while the country is good for ‘only’ 35 percent of the first asylum requests. In addition to Syria, Iraq and Turkey are important countries of origin of asylum seekers and nastyizers.
