U2 drummer Larry Mullen wants to take some time off. So will Mullen in the “Washington Post” quoted.

Should the band go on tour in 2023, he will not be touring with them: “Next year I will not be performing live. I don’t know what the band’s plan is. All kinds of things are talked about.” The 61-year-old needs an operation to continue playing and wants to take the time to “heal himself”. He does not explain which intervention is involved. The fact that U2, founded by Mullen in 1976, would go on a concert tour without him is actually considered impossible. However, this probably excludes the possibility that singer Bono’s planned residency in Las Vegas could take place at least next year

However, his statements led fans to speculate that Mullen would leave the band. To deny the rumours, Washington Post journalist Geoff Edgers tweeted more quotes from his interview with Mullen.

The drummer primarily wants to solve his health problems because “he wants to drum again”. He also said he enjoys gaming and being around creative people. Edgers also notes that Mullen never said he was leaving U2 or retiring.

Just last Sunday (December 4th), US President Joe Biden honored the band at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for their lifetime achievements. The “The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts” honors important personalities at this ceremony. At this year’s 45th ceremony, the award also went to George Clooney, Amy Grant, Gladys Knight and Tania León.
