In various coastal municipalities, participants went out to search the tide line for special finds. Classic species such as carpet shells, cockles and mussels were frequently found, but exotic shells are also increasingly popping up.
“The American beach shell is a newcomer that we did not see four years ago,” says Jonckheere. The increase in razors and fossil cockles also stood out. “Some shells that we find are more than 100,000 years old,” said a participant.
