Laptop trainer Michael Vijverberg brings about culture change at SEW: “Professionalize”

With the arrival of Michael Vijverberg, a cultural change is underway within SEW. The handball club from Nibbixwoud is fully committed to modernization and talent development. Vijverberg tries to push the players to a higher level with video analyses. “I can pre-chew everything, but they have to understand it.”

The only 26-year-old head coach had a clear goal in mind when he came to SEW. Within a few years, the club should be involved in the battle for the national championship. To achieve that goal, he tries to professionalize the club.

Vijverberg came over from VZV from ‘t Veld and was the successor of Arthur Langedijk. When he signed in the summer, he was offered a full-time contract. That is unique in handball. It indicates the ambitions of the club, but also the intention of Vijverberg. “From the bus costs to the toilet that gets stuck. The moment the club professionalises, I can also apply that to the team.”

The video analysis component is Vijverberg’s spearhead at SEW. The players look back in three groups of matches and present this to the rest of the selection during Friday training. “You have homework,” says player Jolijn Beerepoot. “It takes a lot of time, but we benefit from it.”

Winner pool

Next weekend, SEW will start the winner’s pool, after finishing third in the regular season. In the cup, it had to recognize the superior in VOC on Tuesday evening. The handball players from Amsterdam eliminated SEW: 27-20.
