Sturla Holm Laegreid has had its most successful season in the Biathlon World Cup. The Norwegian prevailed against Skijäger icon Johannes Thingnes Bö. Nevertheless, he now decided to change his skis.
Sturla Holm Laegreid made it to the top of the world on the Madshus brand. But after the past, successful biathlon season, the surprising change followed: from now on he is relating to models of the Austrian brand Fischer.
The message in Norway has certainly caused a conversation. “It’s like switching to the dark side,” the 28-year-old told “TV2”.
Due to his change, Laegreid still hopes for a new boost. “At Fischer there is a little more security because it is a larger manufacturer,” he explained: “I did a test in April and had the feeling that it might fit my technique a little better. Already on the first ski excursion, Egil (national coach Kristianen, editor’s note)) that I could have been ironed out some technical deficits that I could not fully fix with the Madshus-Skiers.”
Money did not matter for the biathlon star – on the contrary
The financial aspect was not the incentive – on the contrary: “It would have been more sensible financially to stay, but as I said, I choose the equipment that I think I have most of it.”
Another advantage: The biathlon stars Johannes Thingnes and Tarjei Bö Bö, who resigned after the past winter leave Sturla Holm Laegreid a wide range of fishing skis, which he can now use.
Laegreid had been able to beat the younger of the two Bö-Brüder in the 2024/25 season in the overall World Cup and thus secured the large crystal ball for the first time as overall winner. The relay Olympic champion of 2022 and seven-time world champions go into the new season as a big favorite.
