It took almost five years for a new album to appear – now Lady Gaga has returned to her musical roots with Mayhem. The 14 tracks comprehensive record, which was published today (March 7), marks a personal and artistic rebirth for the singer. In an interview with “Associated Press”, Gaga explained: “I recaptured myself as an artist.”

Lady Gaga: The first singles could already convince

The already published singles “Disease”, “Abracadabra” and “The With A Smile” – the latter is a duet with Bruno Mars – were already very well received by their fans and reached top positions in the charts worldwide. With over 3.7 billion streams, “The With a Smile” is even the longest-running No. 1 song on Spotify Global and the song in the history, which the fastest and two billion streams have reached on the platform. The song was at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks, reached the Billboard Global 200th place and brought Gaga her 14th Grammy Award for the best pop duo/group performance at the Grammys 2025.

Discover beautiful in chaos

In essence, Mayhem is about hugging the broken parts of themselves and discovering how they come together and form something unexpected and beautiful. The album reflects this concept with its diverse range of sound and its thematic layers by combining elements of chaos, defiance and vulnerability to a coherent artistic statement. Gaga describes this process as the merging of a broken mirror: “Even if you cannot put the parts together perfectly, you can create something that is memorable and completely in its own way.”

Each song interweaves complex stories with impressive melodies, proof of their willingness to experiment and their deep respect for their craft. Gaga emphasized that with Mayhem she wanted to preserve her artistic integrity by solving superficial relationships and focusing on real connections. She said, “I built my life around the music and not about self-promotion.” Mayhem was recorded in the Shangri-La Studios near her house in Malibu-produced by Gaga, Michael Polansky and Andrew Watt.

Lady Gaga on “Saturday Night Live”

On March 8, Lady Gaga will appear for the second time both as a host and as a musical guest at “Saturday Night Live”. She looks forward to working in various art forms that she loves, and emphasized: “It’s about working hard and giving the audience joy on Saturday evening.”
