In an unprecedented political event in the Buenos Aires suburbs, La Libertad Avanza decided publicly distance oneself from councilor Leila Gianni after his decision to break the ruling bloc the same day he assumed his seat in the Deliberative Council of La Matanza. The intern was made public this Tuesday, December 10, with a statement signed by three of the four local libertarian councilors, who described the legislator’s attitude as “deliberate and planned” to generate internal divisions.
In the text, the councilors Lorena Ramos, Gabriel Chaile and Jimena Alonso They stressed that Gianni “does not belong, does not represent or is authorized to speak on behalf of the space” and they accused the councilor of acting without “real commitment to our ideas or respect for the mandate of the polls.” Furthermore, they questioned that do not have a domicile in La Matanza and that his presence in LLA has been “merely circumstantial and electoral, without militancy or real territorial construction”.
According to multiple reports, the leader chose to form its own bloc called “Republican Freedom Alliance”along with a councilor from La Libertad Avanza and two representatives of the PROthus displacing the official LLA bloc and reconfiguring the balance of forces in the Council. On his social networks, Gianni defended himself with a public statement: “For serial operators I tell you: I didn’t go anywhere, always hand in hand with our president, our Lion”.
The new councilor explained that her decision responded not to personal differences but to “an obvious reality” in the internal functioning that, in his opinion, prevented the full development of his legislative task in La Libertad Avanza and that sought to “guarantee that the voice of the people of Matanzas who embrace the ideas of freedom develop without conditions.” A justification that did not go down well with the libertarian ranks.

The figure of Gianni did not arrive on the libertarian political scene without a previous history in other spaces. TOBefore his militancy in the Mileista movement he worked in public administration under Peronist governments and even linked to the space near La Cámpora.. During the management of Alberto Fernandezthe leader was Director of Environmental Projects at the Ministry of the Environmentthen under the leadership of Juan Cabandié.
His political past also includes public support in campaign activities by Justicialism figures, such as Sergio Massa in 2023, and a journey within the public administration since 2008 that took her through different administrations, including the ANSES and the Ministry of the Environment. But, after the triumph of Javier Milei In 2023, Gianni joined the official team as Undersecretary of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Human Capital. In that sector, the official was the manager of complaints against figures linked to the previous administration, such as Juan Graboisuntil he decided to dedicate himself to territorial political construction in La Matanza.

The new block formed by the former official of the portfolio of Sandra Pettovello It constitutes the base from which Gianni will seek to exercise her local representation and unite forces with a pragmatic vision that, according to her own statement, aims at “plurality and dialogue.” In this newborn space, many libertarians wonder what role the Buenos Aires head of LLA will play. Sebastian Pareja.
The crisis in La Libertad Avanza in the Matanzas district exposes, once again, the internal tensions in a relatively new political movement, with complex territorial cohesion challenges within the Buenos Aires suburbs. The rupture not only reconfigures the local political board, but also highlights the difficulties of consolidating new party structures in historical territories dominated by Peronism.
