Melbourne (AP) – The Australian tennis players Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis have crowned their surprising series of successes in the doubles competition at the Australian Open by winning the title.

The duo won the Australian final against Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell 7:5, 6:4 in Melbourne. This was the first time in the professional era since 1968 that a doubles team, which only took part in the tournament thanks to a wildcard, won.

For the first time since 1980, two Australian pairings faced each other in the final of the men’s doubles competition. Kyrgios and Kokkinakis drew crowds in Melbourne with their wild and entertaining performances.
