In Kuurne’s new multi-year plan, 25 million euros in expenditure is planned over the next six years. The largest portion of that budget, around 8 million euros, will go to the new swimming pool, which Kuurne will soon build together with its neighbor Harelbeke. Francis Benoit, mayor of Kuurne: “There is clearly a shortage of swimming pool water in South-West Flanders. Harelbeke does not even have a swimming pool. We have had a swimming pool for 52 years, but it needs to be renovated. A renovation is too expensive. We finally decided to build a new one together with Harelbeke. There are many schools from Harelbeke that also come to swim here.”
