Contract runs until 2028

Sports director Markus Krösche wants to continue his work at Eintracht Frankfurt regardless of the turbulence surrounding coach Albert Riera. “We have worked together successfully for the last few years. Now we have a situation in which we have to get through a difficult phase together. But even there I feel full support, and that is the case,” said Krösche, who still has a contract until 2028, at the “OMR” digital trade fair in Hamburg on the “Bild” stage.
Riera is already facing dismissal again a good three months after his start in Frankfurt. It would be the second coaching separation within a season for Krösche, after Dino Toppmöller had to vacate his position in January. Toppmöller scored an average of 1.55 points in 121 games, while Riera scored an average of 1.33 after twelve games. The Spaniard also repeatedly made headlines with his appearances at press conferences. “Albert is a very strong personality, he has a clear opinion on topics, he expresses them. Everyone has their own style, he has his style. You can solve things more diplomatically. But you need personalities,” said Krösche.
“We have achieved extraordinary things in the last few years. Now we are having a more difficult year. That is not satisfactory. Especially because we are not satisfied with the way we play football,” emphasized Krösche, admitting that this was a new experience for him too. After successful years, Frankfurt is in danger of missing out on a European Cup competition and that before a season in which the Europa League final will take place in Frankfurt. It could happen that Eintracht finishes seventh or eighth, said Krösche, “but that’s not what we want.”

The SGE is currently in eighth place in the Bundesliga. On Friday (8:30 p.m./Sky) the Hessians will be visiting Borussia Dortmund on matchday 33. It is not yet clear which place is enough for which European Cup. That also depends on SC Freiburg’s performance in the Europa League.
