Korfball players KZ lose sight of play-offs after defeat, Blauw-Wit is definitely safe

KZ has missed the chance to qualify for the play-offs. The team of coach Tim Bakker lost in Koog aan de Zaan in an exciting 20-22 match against DOS ’46. As a result, the visitors climb over the Koogers, so that the chances for the play-offs have suddenly plummeted. “This is a hard blow,” says Bakker.

The game was played on Tuesday-evening, as the game could not go ahead earlier. The selection of KZ had to do with a corona outbreak and was unable to assemble a full team. As a result, Blauw-Wit also played tonight.

Completion

DOS ’46 took the lead in the opening phase via Robin Frieswijk. KZ then had many chances to score, but was careless in the completion. Nikki Boerhout managed to break that trend and put the equalizer on the scoreboard. Then it went better at KZ, but DOS kept up because it was very accurate in the rounding: 4-4.

KZ in action against DOS

The visitors from Nijeveen, who were fighting for their last chance for a possible place in the play-offs, didn’t let the grass grow and came five minutes before half time thanks to four precise long shots by Max Malestein at 7-9. On the stroke of half-time, KZ came alongside thanks to a utilized penalty by Anouk Haars: 9-9.

Conflict

DOS, which only collected two points in the championship group, immediately started strongly in the second half. But Malestein’s two quick goals were undone with two long shots from Emiel de Kruiff (11-11).

KZ had a hard time with the effective DOS and still needed many chances to score. Just over ten minutes before the end, KZ took the lead again via Onno Bakker: 17-16. Yet the Koogers let their lead slip out of their hands. After a blood-curdling final phase, DOS took the victory: 20-22.

KZ is stuck on four points in the championship group due to the defeat and sees DOS thunder past. As a result, KZ no longer has a place in their own hands for the play-offs. If DOS beats LDODK in Gorredijk, the indoor season is over for the Zaankanters. In the event of a draw or defeat by DOS, KZ still qualifies provided DVO is defeated, which is already certain of a place in the first four.

Enforcement Blue-White

In the relegation pool, Blauw-Wit did what the team from Amsterdam had to do. At home, TOP won convincingly with 23-12. Halfway through, a 9-3 score was on the board. Because of the win, Blauw-Wit will also play in the Korfbal League next season. Green Yellow from Wormer is not yet safe. Next Saturday, Daniel Harmzen’s team will play against Blauw-Wit.
