“I think this is the best team I’ve had so far,” says Tim Bakker. He is starting his fifth season as trainer/coach of KZ. “In terms of balance in the group and if you see how they live as top athletes, this is the best team I have coached.”

Gold medal or national champion?

When asked whether Alwin Out would exchange his recently won gold medal with the Dutch team for a national title, he answers resolutely: “Yes, I would. I would really like to become Dutch champion again. We are capable of very nice things this year.”

Boerhout also joins Out and opts for KZ’s first national title since 2012. “I would do that too. Winning Ahoy is really my biggest dream.”

The Korfball League starts for KZ on Saturday with a home match against Dalto (6 p.m.).
