Under Vincent Kompany, FC Bayern has gotten back on track and is currently dominating both the Bundesliga and the Champions League. The coach was now showered with praise.

“FC Bayern has hit the jackpot with Kompany,” enthused Lothar Matthäus on “Sky90” and continued: “Kompany has once again included the players in his decisions and given clear, open, honest speeches. He has reinvented FC Bayern after four or five years of unrest and done a lot of things that the club missed in those years.”

The TV expert therefore made up his mind: “If they keep up this performance, they will be one of the big favorites for the Champions League.”

ARD commentator Tom Bartels also praised Kompany highly: “With Kompany you have the perfect solution and after last season and the elimination against Inter Milan I wouldn’t have thought that we would be sitting there in October and saying: ‘Now he has extended it for another two years and now everything is outstanding’. And that shows the importance Kompany has achieved.”

Kompany took over FC Bayern in the summer of 2024. The Belgian wasn’t necessarily Munich’s first choice at the time.

After the mega start to the new season, the German record champions extended the coach’s contract last week until 2029.

Kompany has “brought the fun back” at FC Bayern

Kompany said he was “grateful” and “honoured”.

“It feels like I’ve been here a lot longer and that I understand the club well.”

Kompany has “brought the fun back” to FC Bayern, praised CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. “The spark has really ignited. Under his leadership, a real team has grown that plays dominant and attractive football. The extra time is also a signal to our players.”
