The trainer of the German record champion chose an unusual line -up against Werder Bremen: regular player Joshua Kimmich did not in the starting eleven. The Belgian explains the decision.
It would have been the 300th Bundesliga game by Joshua Kimmich for FC Bayern – but at the start of the game against Werder Bremen, the midfielder was surprisingly only on the bench, for the second time in a row. In the home game against SV Werder, coach Vincent Kompany summer newcomer Tom Bischof preferred and explained to the pay station Sky before the game on Friday evening: “He was missing this week.”
Kimmich was slightly sick recently, but now fit again. “And that’s a good thing,” said the Belgian. Kimmich will be so much asked in the next few months, so it may be the last moment to take it out, Kompany said with a view to the upcoming tasks in the Bundesliga, DFB Cup and Champions League. Kimmich will probably be used again for the German national team again this year. In November and December there are still four games in the World Cup qualification with the DFB team.
Kimmich had not recently stood in the initial formation in the 4: 1 away against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on the last Bundesliga matchday and was only substituted in the 62nd minute for teammate Leon Goretzka.
The 30-year-old switched from RB Leipzig to Bayern in 2015 for 8.5 million euros, has been a top performer at the club from the Bavarian capital for years. In 452 competitive games for the Munich team, Kimmich scored 45 goals and prepared 119 more goals. His current contract runs until 2029.
