It’s no secret that Sead Kolasinac is still attached to his former club Schalke 04 nine years after his permanent departure – he came back for six months in 2021. The Bosnian defender was involved in Edin Dzeko’s transfer coup in the winter and convinced his compatriot to move to the 2nd Bundesliga. After the promotion, there are increasing rumors that the 32-year-old could also move back to Germany from Atalanta Bergamo.

According to “Sky”, Kolasinac can very well imagine a move to Schalke 04. The central defender made his professional debut under Huub Stevens in September 2012 and wore the royal blue jersey a total of 141 times. He experienced the Champions League times, but in 2021 he was also part of the team that was relegated to the second division as a loan player in the second half of the season.

Kolasinac’s contract with Atalanta ends this summer, so a free transfer for Schalke would be possible. However, as is so often the case, financial resources are likely to become a problem. The Dzeko signing could only be realized because the attacker forewent salary and that is likely to also be the case with Kolasinac.

At La Dea, the defender was used in the second half of the season and thus gained good arguments for an extension. According to “Sky”, Atalanta wants to talk about exactly this and is prepared to make an offer over three years that is financially well above Schalke’s options. Either way, a decision will probably still be a long time coming: Kolasinac reportedly wants to play the World Cup with Bosnia-Herzegovina first.
