It was just as well known that the store had to close, despite a wide -worn petition with 1,500 signatures and an attempt at restart. But the efforts of Stichting Behoud Buurtsuper Koedijk and initiator Johan de Klerk turned out to be in vain.
“Unfortunately, this branch no longer fits within our formula,” says branch manager Johan to MediaPartner Regional city central. And that is why the head office decides to close the store. “We understand that this hurts in the village.”
‘Need for supermarket in Koedijk is large’
Because the closure leads to great disappointment among the inhabitants of Koedijk. Johan de Klerk, who has been living in Koedijk for 35 years, pulled the cart to keep the supermarket. With the foundation and local residents he worked on a plan to continue the store, including the acquisition of staff.
“We wanted to show how great the need for a supermarket in Koedijk,” he says. “But the Dutch headquarters of the German supermarket chain stick to the decision. It felt like we were standing with our backs against the wall.”
