FOOTBALL-The Royal Dutch Football Association started a preliminary investigation in response to the FC Emmen-Top Oss match (1-1). Twice the league duel was temporarily stopped due to the lighting of fireworks.
Club and supporters celebrated the club’s 100th anniversary on Friday evening 12 September with a competition in special retro shirts. In addition, it was a big party for the competition outside the Stadium, with several artists including Jannes. Some supporters of the Zuidtribune stopped torches during the match.
The hard core of FC Emmen is no exception. Supporters at home and abroad frame important matches or anniversaries often with decorative fireworks, such as at FC Groningen-Heerenveen and was the case at Ajax-AZ in the spring.
The firm smoke development that arose during both fireworks actions during the match was a reason for referee Martin Pérez to interrupt twice. In a third time, the arbitration would definitely stop the match.
The KNVB announced today that the professional football prosecutor started a preliminary investigation. In the coming period, the Bond wants to receive information from FC Emmen to paint a picture of what exactly happened last Friday.
It is possible that FC Emmen will be fined, but there are other options. To set off fireworks around Ajax’s 125th anniversary, the Amsterdammers received a two-year suspended sentence. If supporters of Ajax ‘go wrong’ with fireworks within those two years, the club must play a match without an audience or part of that audience.
The KNVB announces that it will have a professional football prosecutor within a few weeks.
