Guitarist Tom Morello praised the Irish hip-hop group Kneecap in the radio show The Strombo Show and compared it with his former band Rage Against the Machine. When asked which younger artists represent similar socially critical messages today, as Ratm in the 1990s, Borello replied: “They are at the top of the list. They are clearly the Rage Against The Machine today.”
The musician particularly emphasized the political demands of the band: “What they do in their art should perhaps do people more often in life, namely that power tell the truth.” When asked about controversy who have recently accompanied Kneecap, Morello said: “Kneecap are not terrorists. Terrorist is terrorist when 20,000 Palestinian children die. That is the story, not that Irish rappers criticize this.”
Investigations and criticism of appearances
Kneecap has recently been a topic in British media. Her appearance at the Glastonbury Festival in June was deleted from the BBC Livestream program just hours before the start. During the concert, the band expressed criticism of Labor boss Keir Starmer and expressed solidarity with the Palestinian population.
Police investigations are currently underway against the group. The London Metropolitan Police examined a stage expression (“Up Hamas, Up Hezbollah”) and showing a flag. Another procedure concerned a statement at a concert (“The only good tory is a dead tory”); This has now been discontinued. The term “Tory” applies to members and supporters: inside the Conservative and Unionist Party, one of the most important parties in the political system of Great Britain. The musicians deny to glorify violence and describe their statements as satirical or artistic.
Mo Chara, member of the band, said in an interview that the statements were part of a performance: “We play characters. It was a joke.”

Advertising ban for concert poster
An advertising poster for the upcoming show of the band in the London Wembley Arena on September 18. According to media reports, it was not approved in the city’s subway network, with reference to possible “large or widespread impetus”.
The band became known for provocative hits such as “Get Your Brits Out” and “Better Way to Live”, which combine political hip-hop with Irish slang. The band was also seen in the film of the same name “Kneecap”. Director Rich Peppiatt was recently awarded a BAFTA price for the best film debut.
