Klose and Hummel in the hammer throw without a chance

The two World Championship debutants Sören Klose and Merlin Hummel had no chance of reaching the final in the hammer throw at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest (Sunday, 5:50 p.m.).

With 72.23 m in qualifying, Klose remained well below his season best, Hummel failed to make a valid attempt in three throws.

Olympic champion and top favorite Wojciech Nowicki (78.04), as well as defending champion Pawel Fajdek (77.98/both Poland), showed no weaknesses. Also in the final is local hero and probably Hungary’s greatest hope for a medal, Bence Halasz (78.13).
