KLM must solve half of the seat problem at Schiphol in July | NOW

In July, KLM will have to limit the number of seats for departing passengers at Schiphol by an average of just under seven thousand every day. Slot coordinator Airport Coordination Netherlands (ACNL) made this calculation based on the amount of slots that airlines normally have at the airport.

In July, according to the airport, there are about 13,500 seats too many daily if all planes are completely full. The restrictions, which are necessary due to staff shortages, concern departing travelers who use security. Transfer passengers are not included in this.

With about half the number of slots, KLM is by far the largest user of Schiphol. Airlines are free to choose how the limitation in the number of seats is implemented. For example, ticket sales can be stopped or passenger journeys have to be cancelled. It also depends on how many tickets have already been sold.

Thomassen, in his own words, understood from companies that they consider the restrictions a “tough task” and that they are slightly more drastic than they had expected. The airline has not yet responded.
