KLJ opts for Christmas lights instead of campfire

In the Westhoek, like in many other places in Flanders, people are struggling with an enormous drought. After a wildfire last week, the municipality of Heuvelland did not want to take any risks and decided to ban campfires. According to city council chairman Bert Doise, it is not responsible to keep a campfire in these circumstances. Alternatively, the municipality lends two garlands of Christmas lights to the youth movement, who drape them around a pirate boat. It is not a real replacement, but the members do not let it get to their heart.
