A fire broke out in the basement of an apartment house on Narcisstraat in Winschoten on Sunday afternoon.
The fire started in the basement just before 2 a.m. Five residents then fled to the balcony. The fire brigade came to the scene with a cherry picker to rescue the residents.
An ambulance is also present. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
The vicinity of the apartment complex is temporarily closed.
