Klinsmann celebrates second South Korean victory in a row

Jürgen Klinsmann achieved his second win in a row as head coach of the South Korean national football team.

In a test match in front of their home crowd, the South Koreans defeated Tunisia 4-0 (0-0) in the World Cup stadium in Seoul. Kangin Lee scored twice for the 2002 World Cup fourth-place finisher in front of around 59,000 spectators (55th and 57th minutes). Tunisian Yassing Meriah scored an own goal in the 66th minute before Uijo Hwang completed the win in stoppage time. Bayern Munich’s central defender Minjae Kim wore the captain’s armband.

South Korea’s regular captain, star striker Heungmin Son, remained on the bench this time. According to reports from the South Korean news agency Yonhap, the player from Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur had to take a break due to a groin injury.

The South Koreans beat Saudi Arabia 1-0 in Newcastle, England, in September. It was the 59-year-old Klinsmann’s first success since he took up the job as Asian national coach just over six months ago. South Korea will face Vietnam in another test in Suwon on Tuesday.
