Femke Halsema has been voted the best local director of 2024. The mayor of Amsterdam, among other things, beat the King Jetta Klijnsma’s Commissioner.

Professional journal Binnenlands Board organizes the election annually. Halsema is described by the people who nominated her as ‘communicative and decisive’, the magazine writes. “Mayor Halsema is an example for public administration in this time of polarization. She performs decisively and sees the groups in her city demand that attention.”

The prizes were awarded last night. In total there were thirteen nominees, a driver from every province and a candidate from the water boards. Almost 20,000 votes were cast.

Mayor Anno Wietze Hiemstra van Aa and Hunze was in the race for the title of best director of a small municipality. That prize also ended up in Drenthe, but in Noord-Brabant. Mayor Teun Heldens van Heeze-Leende region with the honor, he is 31 years old and therefore the youngest mayor of the Netherlands.
