A 21-year-old man from Klazienaveen has been sentenced to 22 months in prison for a series of car fires and destruction in Southeast Drenthe, of which 12 months are conditional. In addition, the MAN TBS with conditions (without compulsory treatment) was imposed.

The man denies in all keys, but the judge did not go along with that. There is sufficient evidence to link ten car fires and seven vandalism from car windows to him. The windows were also typed in the burned -out cars. During his arrest in March last year, the suspect had a lighter and a diamond grid with him.

The man has been monitored for a while. It was almost too striking that he always appeared in his car at the fire, or just drove away again. The suspect’s car also appeared on the camera images. A monitoring beacon (channel) was hung on his car. It showed that he was always present during the incidents.

Southeast Drenthe was burdened under the car fires for almost two weeks. In that period the man sometimes borrowed his car, he said to court earlier. But every time his car was spotted in a fire, it was the suspect who was behind the wheel. “The judge says that the car was controlled by someone else,” says the judge.

The Klazienavener said he was finished on 112 reports. But that too cannot be correct according to the judge. “He was sometimes there before”. The man also received the punishment for possessing a forbidden weapon and ammunition. For the pseudo bar (the purchase of that weapon by an undercover agent) the man is acquitted. The date on the indictment was incorrect.

Serious facts in which the man had no respect for the property of others, the judge said. “Brand can quickly take on a large size and can no longer be kept under control”. By denying the man does not take responsibility for his actions. He has been investigated psychologically and is attributable due to a disorder.

The man must pay a amount of damage of 13,200 euros in total.
