King Willem-Alexander still winds his crown towards the face of Evert Santegoeds. He is angry about the Alexia cover of Weekblad Privé. “The letter you could wait for is inside.”

Dutch celebrities are followed all day long by paparazzi or unsuspecting passers -by who then sell their photos to the gossip magazines – even Martijn Krabbé is not safe on his mobility scooter – but very different rules apply to our royals. They see themselves as a very special kind of Dutch celebrities and are only satisfied when all the media nods yes.

Bark letter

Princess Alexia did something very naughty after the balcony scene on Prinsjesdag. It sat down on a terrace on Noordeinde, attracted all the attention and then stepped and Plein Public In the car with singer Antoon. Yes, then of course you will also be careful. There are thousands of ways to run away more anonymously with that kid.

The princess and her possible new sweetheart have been filmed by a patio goer, who have been sold to the private images and they have one shutdown put on the cover. The Government Information Service (RVD) kept striking so far, but yesterday editor -in -chief Evert Santegoeds received a bark letter.

Letter from RVD

King Willem-Alexander demands that all Dutch media adhere to the MediaCode he has drawn up. This means that no -private life of the Oranges can be published, and if that happens, then those media will be boycot by the Royal House and may follow a precious lawsuit.

Evert initially did not feel like it-he waited a week with the publication of the Alexia images-but now has to believe it. “The RVD knows how to find everyone of course. Conversely, but the letter is in. The letter you could wait for,” he confirms in the studio of Shownieuws.

“We are silent”

What does that letter say? Evert: “We have studied him and an answer has been formulated and that is sent. What it says … You can imagine that we do not agree with the content on all points. Both parties differ from insight into a few things. With one thing we agree: they don’t say anything about it and we follow that.”

Colleague Bart Ettekoven thinks that is a shame. Why that mystery? “Gosh, there was just VI a politician (Frans Timmermans, ed.), But you also talk like a politician. My heaven. You say nothing at all!”

“It’s the king!”

Evert has the idea that he must. “I have to deal with the king!”

Colleague Jordi Versteegden: “Is there a lawsuit or not? That is the question.”

Evert: “I’m not going to say anything about that. For the time being I don’t say anything about it.”

Bart: “You don’t have to see the prison?”

EBI in Vught

That is just the question, Evert Cynically notes. “Then you come and visit me, isn’t it? In Vught.”

Bart laughing: “In the ebi, hahaha.”

Do we hear it from Evert when things escalate? “Yes. Then you have to arrange someone else here.”
