Kilometer-long chain connects Diever residents: ‘I think this is very important’

In recent weeks, residents of the Jan Thijs Seinenhof in Diever have been busy with only one thing: stringing beads for a necklace. Not just any chain, but one of 1168 meters.

The chain is hung around the residential care center. “I think that people should remain connected to each other, even if you live in an assisted living home, nursing home or elsewhere,” says initiator Heidie Peeters. During the hanging process, a lot of curious residents come out. “That is the intention. Just get in touch with each other, I think that is very important.”

Fortunately, Peeters did not have to do the stringing of the beads alone. She received help from the residents of the Jan Thijs Seinenhof. “They were already waiting for me in the morning.”

It is not known how long the chain will remain hanging. “We haven’t been given a limit, so we’ll see how long the chain lasts and then we’ll take it off.”
