Kiev reports destruction of Russian command center in Crimea

Kiev/Moscow – The Ukrainian military says it destroyed a Russian command point at Saky Airport on the Crimean peninsula, which was annexed by Moscow, during the night. “Aerodrome Saky: All targets have been shot down,” Air Force Chief Mykola Oleshchuk said on Saturday, according to Ukrainian media reports. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that four Ukrainian missiles had been shot down by its own air defense system in Crimea during the night. The reports cannot be independently verified.

In the past, however, Ukraine has succeeded several times – despite initial reports from Moscow to the contrary – in attacking and damaging or even destroying Russian military objects. For example, Ukraine hit the Russian Black Sea Fleet base in Crimea with missiles. The flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, the missile cruiser “Moskva”, and most recently the large landing ship “Novocherkassk” were also sunk./bal/DP/he
