The Taliban say they have conducted a prisoner exchange with the United States. They have released American engineer Mark Frerichs (60) in exchange for Haji Bashir Noorzai, an Afghan tribal leader who has supported the Taliban financially. The US, which does not recognize the Taliban government, confirms the news. Frerichs was held in Afghanistan for almost three years.
