How important is the game for the Bundesliga?
A win for Borussia Dortmund at FC Bayern would keep the Bundesliga exciting. The record champions from Munich have not lost any points so far and lead the table with 18 points after six match days and are already five points ahead of the second team from Dortmund before the game.
In order to stay within striking distance, Borussia should at least play a draw in Munich. If Bayern win, they will get an early walk to the championship trophy.
What are BVB’s chances?
Not bad at all on paper. BVB has been unbeaten in the league across all seasons for seven months. Dortmund’s sports director Lars Ricken also sees his team as having no chance. “Of course Bayern are favorites in the game, but I don’t want to talk about David against Goliath. And if someone calls us that, then we are a very combative David.”said Ricken: “We have to show our top performance and prevent Bayern from showing their top performance. Then we have a chance.”
What speaks for Bayern?
In addition to the fact that they play at home in Munich, above all their dominance this season. They won all of their ten competitive games – with a goal difference of 38:8. Harry Kane in particular is unstoppable. The Englishman already has eleven goals and three assists in the Bundesliga.
What do the statistics say?
At first glance, that speaks for Dortmund. Because they have been undefeated against Bayern for three games and only won 2-0 in Munich in March 2024. In previous years, however, there were almost only bankruptcies. Overall, the Munich team has 54 wins, 32 draws and only 26 defeats against BVB in the Bundesliga.
Who should you pay attention to?
Especially on the national players. At the important World Cup qualifier on Monday in Northern Ireland, Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck and Karim Adeyemi as well as Bayern players Jonathan Tah, Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Serge Gnabry were in national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s starting line-up. The BVB professionals Maximilian Beier and Waldemar Anton were substituted.
Who will be in the starting line-up?
At Bayern, defender Josip Stanisic is likely to return to the squad after recovering from a knee injury. But the game comes too early for a possible starting eleven. Sacha Boey will probably replace him again. In the second six-man position next to Joshua Kimmich, it will be a close decision for coach Vincent Kompany between Leon Goretzka and Aleksandar Pavlovic.
FC Bayern Munich’s predicted starting lineup

Dortmund fans can breathe a sigh of relief after some concerns about their top striker Serhou Guirassy. The Guinean international returned early from the international break with thigh problems. At the start of training on Tuesday, the club gave the all-clear.
