She has been working towards these shows for months – but Kesha isn’t coming to Berlin. Attacks on the UAE paralyze flights. Fans react in shock.
The singer, known for songs like “TikTok” and “Timber,” contacted her fans via Instagram story. She wrote: “To my Berlin Animals, me and my crew’s flights from Australia to Europe have been cancelled. I’ve been praying but there’s no way we can make it in time.” Kesha’s show at the Uber East Music Hall Berlin has to be canceled completely for the time being.
First tour in over ten years
Kesha was due to play in the capital on Wednesday, March 4, before continuing her European tour to Paris, Amsterdam and Antwerp. It is their first tour in Europe in over a decade. The opening concert of the tour in Berlin was already completely sold out – and there was already a fight for resale tickets online. Now the musician is stuck in Australia, where she previously played as part of her “Tits Out Tour”.
Disappointment among the fans
Their fans are not happy about last-minute gig cancellations: “I know it’s not their fault, but I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long and I’m already flying back in two days, so I probably won’t make it to the new day” and “I’m already in Berlin and I just saw your story this morning. I’m damn pissed,” they commented on socials.
Trigger for failure
The reason for the cancellation of the flights is the attacks on Iran by the USA and Israel. They now also fired missiles at the United Arab Emirates, which led to a standstill in air traffic around Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha. Most flights from Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia have a stopover in these cities.
The fact that Kesha, of all people, is stuck because of the bombing seems almost macabre – after all, she had spoken out against the US government on March 3, the day before. Her song “Blow” was used in a White House TikTok featuring military footage of fighter jets and explosions. She did not agree to the use of her song and defended herself against it with an Instagram story.
New date still uncertain
Whether and when Kesha will make it to Europe is still quite uncertain. She is scheduled to play at the Zenith in Paris on March 6th. No fixed replacement date has yet been set for Berlin. In her story, however, she promises her “animals” that she will make up for the loss of the concert if she makes it back.
