Kerschbaumer leaves 1.FC Heidenheim: Victory goal vs. HSV “emotional highlight”

With the club since 2019

Konstantin Kerschbaumer will leave 1. FC Heidenheim at the end of the season after three years. The second division club announced on Wednesday that the midfielder’s expiring contract would not be extended. The Austrian will look for a new challenge.

“We recently had good and trusting talks with ‘Kerschi’ regarding his sporting future. We came to the decision together that the best solution for both sides is not to extend his contract, which expires in the summer. ‘Kerschi’ simply didn’t get the times he wanted this season to match his personal expectations,” said Holger Sanwald, FCH CEO.

Kerschbaumer came to Heidenheim from FC Ingolstadt in 2019 and played 48 games in which he scored four goals – the most important on June 21, 2020. In the 2-1 win over Hamburger SV on Matchday 33, the right footer scored in injury time to win, who ultimately brought in the decisive points for achieving the relegation. Sanwald described the goal as an “emotional highlight” that “will have its place in FCH history”.

Kerschbaumer himself added: “I can already say that looking back I can look back on a nice and successful time in the FCH jersey. Even if it wasn’t easy for me personally with only a few minutes of action. But before there is time to say goodbye, my full focus is clearly on the final spurt of the season. Ultimately, as a team, we want to play each and every one of our remaining games as successfully as possible.”
