With Kennet Eichhorn, Hertha BSC once again has a great talent in its own ranks. According to media reports, the 16-year-old is already being hotly sought after. A transfer can be expensive.
16-year-old Kennet Eichhorn has attracted attention as the youngest player in the history of the 2nd Bundesliga. With his first professional goal against 1. FC Kaiserslautern at the beginning of December, he also became the youngest goalscorer in DFB Cup history. Now the online portal “transfermarkt.de” estimates Eichhorn’s market value at 20 million euros.
This makes the Brandenburg native more valuable than any player in the 2nd league before. Eichhorn is now on the same level as national players Deniz Undav, David Raum and Nadiem Amiri. In October his value was estimated at 6 million euros.
Hertha’s sports director Benjamin Weber explained in an interview with “transfermarkt.de” regarding Eichhorn: “He has made great development in the last few months and has taken important first steps in professional football because he worked and trained in a very focused manner.” This attitude earned him a lot of playing time, which he deserved.
Despite the interest from numerous top clubs, Hertha BSC is sticking to its plan to continue Eichhorn’s development with calm and a sense of proportion. Weber emphasized that the focus is not on the market value, but rather on the player’s continuous sporting development. The Berliners hope to be able to keep Eichhorn in the capital beyond next summer.
The club is aware of the potential of the young talent. But also the fact that development is not always linear. “Our aim is to provide him with the best possible support and to give him the time and platform he needs for his next steps – regardless of external valuations or market values,” said Weber.
