Keeper Lennon Hebeltjes the hero for SVBO in penalty shootout against Winsum

SVBO has qualified for the quarterfinals of the tournament for the district cup. Winsum bowed his head at home after penalties, in regular playing time it became 2-2.

SVBO is in a difficult phase. The last victory in the competition dates from December 4 and the last eight matches resulted in five defeats and only three draws. The cup match seemed like a good opportunity for the team of trainer Arthur van der Veen (who is already leaving after one season) to break through that negative series. After all, SVBO had already built up an impressive record in the cup tournament. The Knickerbockers, Fit Boys, FC Ter Apel’96, DESZ, Elim and Zuidwolde were all effortlessly pushed aside with the impressive goal numbers 27 – 1.

Fresh from the liver

Winsum was just working on a strong series, it won the last three league games and has therefore advanced to the safe middle bracket. Both teams are in the first division, Winsum on Saturday, SVBO on Sunday.

They started fresh from the liver, but soon the home team took the initiative. The passionate coaching Fred de Boer pushed his team forward under the motto an early goal is never too late. After a cross from Yume Ramos, Sjoerd Nienhuis’ effort was thwarted. A thump from Thijs Gerlofs was stopped by Lennon Ebeltjes, the excellent goalkeeper of SVBO.

On the other hand, captain Dylan Wessels was close to the opening goal of the guests from Barger-Oosterveld, but he came across keeper Wouter Meijer.

When the first visitors shuffled towards the canteen for a cup of hot coffee or a clear beer, both teams struck once. Tijs Mulder brought Jered Faleye into possession and his mop shot was even too powerful for Ebeltjes: 1-0. Menno Mulder failed to double the lead and then SVBO hit back mercilessly. After preparatory work by Henk Teuben and Robin Gerlach, Bram Jakobs tapped in the equalizer: 1-1.

Little spectacle

The second half was a lot less, especially from Winsum’s side. It was often too rushed. Under the leadership of Dylan Wessels, SVBO showed that it was not willing to surrender just like that. Winsum still took the lead and that goal was nice. Menno Mulder scored in a controlled manner after a cross from his brother Tijs.

It then became such a duel for the spectators to philosophize about the elections for the Provincial Council, nothing spectacular happened.

Ten minutes before the end, SVBO brought top scorer Ronald Gerdes, who was initially spared for the cracker on Sunday against Germanicus. He was immediately menacing. At SVBO you saw confidence rise again, organically, like dishes on a kitchen counter. Winsum became increasingly sloppy and the equalizer was as inevitable as fish on Friday. Jelmer Scholtens shot in from close range to make it 2-2.

Penalty kicks decided

Then penalty kicks made the decision. Winsum’s conviction also seemed to have disappeared with those penalties. Only eight eleven-meter steps were needed. Goalkeeper Lennon Hebeltjes became the hero for the men from Southeast Drenthe. He stopped the bets of Menno Mulder and Tim Hoff. Emiel Seigers convincingly shot the last hit, causing Winsum to leave the field in a minor blow.

SVBO, which had only one day of rest after the league game against Jubbega on Sunday, did the same, but in a festive mood and can prepare for the winner of Twedo – Blauw Wit, which will be played tonight.

Winsum – SVBO 2-2 SVBO wins on penalties (2-4).
